Rasmus Stride is a multimedia and crypto artist born in Denmark, living in Oslo.
“In Flanders Field 2020” is a work inspired by the famous WW1 poem by John McCrae. By depicting a poppy field overwhelmed by alien clouds, I wanted to resemble the bleak but beautiful scene expressed in the original poem. In contradiction to the Ypres battlefields of 1915 no physical battle is seemingly happening, but the cloudy volumes give a strong resemblance to gas clouds.
The gas used by Germany in the battles in 1915 (xylyl bromide), was the deadliest bioweapon in the world at the time. The shock of its violence draws close resemblance to the dangerous Covid-19 virus, the political and civil unrest all over the world in 2020.
The title is inspired by images of mass graves and street-riots of 2020.
